Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Clinical Medicine and Pharmacology treats publication ethics as part of its responsibility to patients, clinicians and researchers. The journal requires an honest account of how evidence was obtained and applies procedures for resolving concerns before and after publication. Its editors use relevant COPE guidance and medical reporting standards in making proportionate decisions. Following such guidance does not imply that CMP is a member of COPE or has been accepted by an indexing service.
Responsibilities for reliable clinical evidence
Authors must describe methods and results accurately, report important limitations and harms, and retain evidence supporting their findings. Invented patients, fabricated outcomes, altered images, hidden analyses that materially change interpretation, deceptive citations and manipulated peer review are unacceptable. Similarity or AI detection results are prompts for evaluation; a numerical score alone neither establishes misconduct nor clears a submission.
Authorship interests and rights
All listed authors must qualify for authorship, approve the work and accept accountability. Contributions, professional assistance and relevant AI use are disclosed. Every author declares relevant financial and nonfinancial interests and the role of funders. Editors and reviewers disclose conflicts and recuse themselves where necessary. Authors retain copyright subject to the publication agreement and must have permission for material and personal information they supply.
Ethics oversight and data
Human research requires appropriate prior ethics review or a justified exemption, together with consent or an authorised waiver applicable to the study. Consent to participate and consent to publish identifiable information serve different purposes. Clinical trials must meet CMP’s registration policy. Data statements explain what is available, where it can be accessed and why restrictions are necessary. Openness must not expose confidential patient records or override consent.
Independent editorial decisions
Qualified editors direct external peer review and decide on scholarly grounds. Fees, waivers, sponsorship and institutional relationships must not influence acceptance. Editorial or guest editorial authors are excluded from handling their own submissions. Reviewers protect confidentiality and do not use unpublished findings, demand irrelevant citations or outsource their judgment.
Responding to concerns
Reports may concern a submitted paper, a published article or the conduct of an editor, reviewer or publisher. CMP considers specific evidence regardless of whether the reporter is named. The journal preserves relevant records, seeks responses, manages conflicts and may contact responsible institutions. Institutional findings inform the editorial assessment but do not replace the journal’s duty to protect its own publication record. Nonresponse is not automatically proof of wrongdoing.
Discussion and corrective action
Readers may submit evidence based comments or request correction. A localised error can warrant a correction; a seriously unreliable article or serious publication breach can warrant retraction. A substantial unresolved concern may require an expression of concern. Removal is exceptional and limited to compelling reasons such as patient privacy or serious safety or legal obligations. Notices explain the reason, remain linked to the article and do not disappear because an author objects.
Detailed procedures and access
The policies Authorship and Contributorship, Competing Interests and Research Funding, Research Ethics and Informed Consent, Research Data Code and Reporting Standards, Copyright Licensing and Third Party Material, Allegations of Research Misconduct, Complaints and Editorial Appeals, and Corrections Retractions and Postpublication Discussion provide the procedures supporting this statement. The journal maintains direct links to them from its ethics page. Questions or supporting documents should be sent through the CMP editorial office at cmpeditorialoffice@jandoopress.com, identifying the manuscript number or article DOI where available.
