Advertising

Clinical Medicine and Pharmacology does not accept or display paid advertisements in its journal website, article files, issue material or official journal communications. Its own issue announcements and clearly identified calls for papers are editorial communications. The safeguards below apply to a proposed future change and prevent promotional interests from influencing clinical evidence, patient protection and pharmacological research.

Recognising editorial and promotional material

A clinical discussion of a medicine, device or diagnostic service is editorial content only when it has been assessed as such and meets the journal’s disclosure and evidence standards. It must not function as a concealed advertisement. Authors name products when scientifically necessary and report limitations and relevant competing interests. The absence of paid advertising does not remove the obligation to scrutinise commercial influence in submitted research.

Future advertising arrangements

If the journal decides to introduce advertising, it first publishes an updated policy explaining the eligible categories, approval responsibility, placement and whether any display depends on content or user behaviour. No advertiser may participate in manuscript decisions or select articles that appear beside a placement. Advertisements must be clearly marked and separated from the article, its abstract and the reviewer or editor’s assessment.

Medical and patient safeguards

Any future assessment must consider whether a proposed advertisement could mislead patients, imply unsupported clinical efficacy or promote unsafe use. Claims of regulatory approval or evidence of benefit require an appropriate basis. The journal will not allow advertising to resemble a correction, safety notice, trial report or independent guideline. Material promoting fraudulent publishing services or guaranteed acceptance is incompatible with CMP’s purpose.

Use of the journal identity

A third party may not describe a product as endorsed by CMP merely because related research was published in the journal. Permission to reproduce an openly licensed article does not include permission to use the journal logo as a product endorsement. An alleged misuse should be reported with a copy or link so the publisher can examine what action is appropriate.

Reporting concerns

Readers may raise concerns about apparent advertising, disguised promotion or an inappropriate placement through the editorial office. The publisher checks the material and explains the relevant distinction or removes an unauthorised placement where it controls the page. Any associated concern about the integrity of an article is also referred to an independent editor. Questions or supporting documents should be sent through the CMP editorial office at cmpeditorialoffice@jandoopress.com, identifying the manuscript number or article DOI where available.
