Preprints and Repository Deposit

Clinical Medicine and Pharmacology allows authors to share their research through preprint servers and repositories while maintaining a clear distinction between an unreviewed manuscript and the published record. Depositing a version is not a second journal submission. Authors remain responsible for protecting patient confidentiality and complying with rights and consent conditions in every version they distribute.

Before and during review

A preprint is a manuscript shared before formal journal publication and must be identified as not yet certified through CMP peer review. Its existence does not automatically exclude the work from consideration. Authors disclose the server, identifier, version and posting date in the cover letter and explain any material changes. A preprint may make an author identifiable to a reviewer despite the journal’s double anonymous process; this limitation does not remove the reviewer’s duty to act impartially.

Accepted manuscript

The author accepted manuscript is the text approved after peer review but before publisher formatting and production. Authors may deposit it on acceptance without a journal embargo, identifying it as accepted for publication in Clinical Medicine and Pharmacology and updating the record with the final citation and DOI when available. Review reports and confidential correspondence are not part of that deposit permission.

Version of record

The version of record may be deposited immediately on publication in institutional, subject or other suitable repositories. The record should provide the complete citation, DOI, version label and licence link. The deposited file should retain notices identifying copyright, third party exclusions and any correction or retraction. Authors should not remove an article’s retraction label or describe a superseded file as the current authoritative version.

Clinical communication and data restrictions

Authors should use particular care when promoting an unreviewed therapeutic claim. A preprint should not be presented as an established clinical recommendation or as accepted by CMP. Permission to deposit a manuscript does not authorise deposition of confidential patient records, consent forms or proprietary third party datasets. Repository access conditions for supporting data must match the study’s approvals and the data availability statement.

Keeping records aligned

When the journal corrects or retracts an article, authors should update repository records and link the notice. The journal may notify repository operators of a material status change. Deposit permission does not guarantee compliance with every funder’s repository, metadata or timing requirements, which authors must check separately. Enquiries should identify the version and intended repository so the office can clarify the applicable conditions. Questions or supporting documents should be sent through the CMP editorial office at cmpeditorialoffice@jandoopress.com, identifying the manuscript number or article DOI where available.
