Revenue Sources and Business Model
JGTSS operates as an open-access social-science journal. Its readers are not charged to consult the published research. Publication costs are met through the journal’s disclosed APC arrangements and the resources supplied by its publisher, Jandoo Press. Financial sustainability must be organized in a way that preserves independent academic decisions and transparent dealings with authors.
Current income and support
JGTSS’s publication work is financed by its disclosed APCs and Jandoo Press resources. There is presently no external financial or in-kind sponsorship and no paid-advertising revenue. The unfunded academic relationship with the Peking University centre is described separately. Official printed issues or subscriptions are optional transactions supplied on request and separately quoted. Any future grant, donation or sponsorship must identify its source, purpose and limits without granting editorial control. Funding of an author’s research belongs in that article’s declarations, not in a claim that the funder supports the journal.
What the journal funds
The publisher provides administration, submission-system support, editorial coordination, production, metadata maintenance and online access. The APC is a publication-service charge invoiced after acceptance; it is not a payment to an individual reviewer for a favorable recommendation. The journal’s current base rate and any applicable reduction are described in Article Processing Charges and Refunds and Fee Waivers and Institutional Discounts.
The APC does not guarantee that an article will be cited, selected by a database or produce a particular benefit to its authors. Statements about indexing distinguish actual independently verifiable coverage from applications, technical metadata registration and discovery platforms. The publisher must not present a registration service as evidence of scholarly endorsement or charge an additional undisclosed fee to secure a promised index outcome.
Current institutional position
From 15 September 2026, JGTSS identifies one institutional academic partner: the Center for Surrounding Communication Studies, Peking University. The publisher authorises the centre-specific 50 percent reduction described in policy 21. This academic relationship does not establish a financial subsidy from the centre, a partnership with every Peking University unit or any institutional power to determine editorial decisions.
Other support and optional transactions
If an organization supplies money, services or in-kind support for the journal or a thematic project, the nature and purpose of that support are disclosed in an appropriate journal-level or issue-level statement. A publicly named academic partner is not automatically described as a financial sponsor. Any specific financial or administrative commitment is documented with the responsible parties and kept separate from editorial authority. The centre’s academic cooperation supplies no financial sponsorship.
The journal does not currently accept paid advertisements. A future change requires an updated Advertising policy and a public explanation before advertising is introduced. Optional official print copies or separately requested author services are quoted as separate purchases. Their costs and conditions are disclosed before an order, and authors are free to decline them without affecting review, acceptance or digital access.
Protection of editorial judgment
Academic editors assess manuscripts using scope, evidence, methodological and ethical standards. They are not given financial targets that require acceptance of particular manuscripts. Reviewers do not see waiver applications or invoice status. Sponsors, partner institutions and service providers cannot choose reviewers, suppress criticism or condition a payment on the publication of favorable conclusions.
Fee changes, new funding arrangements or a change of ownership are communicated in the relevant policies and authoritative journal records. Previously agreed financial commitments are handled through a clear transition, not hidden in a revised webpage. Where the journal is included in an external directory, the responsible office updates the recorded fees and publisher details as required.
Questions about a charge, a sponsor’s role or the journal’s financial arrangements may be addressed to jgtssfinance@jandoopress.com. Concerns that financial pressure has affected a manuscript are routed to an independent academic editor and handled under Complaints and Editorial Appeals rather than resolved solely by finance staff.
