Aims and Scope

The Journal of Global Trends in Social Science (JGTSS) publishes research that explains consequential changes in social life through evidence, critical interpretation and theoretically informed argument. Its international remit connects local experience to wider social processes without requiring every study to compare countries. A carefully situated account of one community may make an important contribution when its claims, evidence and limits are made clear.

Subjects and questions

The journal welcomes sociology, communication and media studies, political science, public policy, economics in its social setting, education, social psychology, cultural studies, linguistics, anthropology, criminology, social work and development studies. Contributions on health, environment or technology should address their social organization, distributional consequences or implications for collective life. Work combining these disciplines should explain how the combination advances understanding rather than simply name several fields.

Priority is given to well formulated questions about inequality, institutions, cultural meaning, social change, governance, participation and relations across regions. Qualitative, quantitative, historical, comparative, theoretical and mixed methods approaches are eligible. The journal welcomes replication, careful null findings and challenges to established interpretations when the design and argument support a substantive contribution.

Forms of contribution

Original research articles present a defined question, an appropriate design and verifiable evidence. Review articles critically synthesize a clearly bounded literature and explain how sources were selected and assessed. Case studies relate detailed evidence to an analytical problem and state the limits of transfer to other settings. Research and review contributions receive external peer review. Short perspectives, correspondence and commentaries are distinctly labelled; editorial assessment of such material is described to readers and must not be represented as external review.

The Surrounding Communications Research section develops inquiry into surrounding communication, including regional and cross-cultural relationships, media networks and communication within communities and their social environments. Papers may examine how technology, policy and social change reshape these relationships. The section’s theoretical and empirical contributions remain subject to the journal’s scope, ethics and independent review requirements.

Boundaries and submission route

Manuscripts are submitted in English through the journal’s online system. Authors working with other languages should preserve essential source-language detail and explain translation choices. A paper about a clinical treatment, engineering device or computer algorithm requires a substantial social-science question to fall within JGTSS; technical performance alone is insufficient. Promotional writing, unsupported commentary, fabricated evidence and work already under review elsewhere are not eligible.

The handling editor assesses fit before inviting reviewers and may explain a scope-based rejection without external review. Authors who are uncertain about a proposed contribution may send a concise abstract to jgtsseditorialoffice@jandoopress.com. An encouraging response to an inquiry is not a commitment to review or accept the completed manuscript.
