Journal Statement

JGTSS publishes scholarly arguments for examination and debate. The views and conclusions in an article belong to its authors and do not necessarily represent those of the editors, publisher or affiliated institutions. This distinction does not remove the journal’s responsibility to assess submissions carefully, respond to credible concerns and maintain an accurate published record.

Responsibility and editorial preparation

Authors take responsibility for the evidence, interpretation, sources, permissions and declarations they submit. All listed authors approve the manuscript and assist in resolving questions about its integrity. The journal undertakes screening and the review appropriate to the article type, with substantive research assessed by independent experts. An editorial disclaimer is not a substitute for ethical oversight or a reason to ignore a substantiated error.

The editorial office may copyedit accepted work for clarity, consistent terminology, accurate references and presentation. It must not change the substance of an argument or result without consultation. Authors receive an opportunity to check proofs and relevant declarations. A material change after acceptance may require further academic review; a material change after publication is explained through the journal’s correction and version procedures.

Access rights and identification

Published articles are openly accessible and carry the applicable CC BY 4.0 licence and author copyright notice. Readers may reuse licensed material, including commercially, under the licence conditions without a separate permission from the editorial office. Exceptions for third-party material are specifically labelled. The author grants a non-exclusive publication authorization; the journal does not claim an exclusive online right that contradicts its open-access arrangements.

Each article has a stable public record and DOI where assigned under the journal’s production workflow. An identifier supports discovery and citation, but is not a guarantee of indexing or independent preservation. Once publication is authorized, normal public dissemination includes metadata distribution; an author cannot require a published article to be hidden from legitimate search and indexing while it remains openly available. Incorrect metadata is corrected through the responsible service.

Submission withdrawal and continuing record

Manuscripts are submitted through the official JGTSS system, with associated files retained for the editorial purposes described in Privacy and Confidentiality. Authors keep their own copies. An author may request withdrawal before publication by clear written notice; this right is not conditional on waiting three months for a decision. The office acknowledges withdrawal and stops further processing, allowing the author to avoid accidental simultaneous submission.

After formal publication, an article is part of the scholarly record and is not deleted merely because the author wishes to publish elsewhere or dislikes a subsequent discussion. Errors and serious concerns are addressed by clarification, correction, expression of concern, retraction or exceptional minimum removal where justified. The current Journal Statement and detailed policies guide new editorial actions. Conflicting wording in historical issue front matter is assessed with the rights and agreements applicable at the time and corrected transparently where necessary; a new statement cannot silently rewrite an author’s existing legal rights.
