Preprints and Repository Deposit

JGTSS supports dissemination of research before and after journal publication. Depositing a preprint does not by itself disqualify a manuscript from consideration. Authors should be clear about the version being shared, the extent of review it has received and its relationship to the later published article so that readers do not mistake an unreviewed draft for the journal’s final record.

Versions and timing

The submitted version is the manuscript before the journal’s peer-review revisions and production work. Authors may share it at any time on a suitable preprint server, institutional repository or other lawful platform, without an embargo. The record should identify it as a preprint or submitted manuscript, avoid implying endorsement by JGTSS and disclose a journal submission only accurately. At submission, authors provide the preprint link and explain any material relationship to another public version.

The author accepted manuscript is the version accepted after peer review, before journal copyediting and typesetting. Authors may deposit this version immediately on acceptance without waiting for issue assignment or formal publication. They identify it as accepted for publication in JGTSS and add the final citation and DOI when those become available. A funder’s specific repository requirements remain the author’s responsibility.

The version of record is the final published article. It may be deposited immediately upon publication, with its author copyright notice, CC BY 4.0 licence information, full citation and DOI. The repository should retain the version label and link readers to the current article record. An adaptation must be labelled as an adaptation, not represented as an unchanged journal PDF.

Anonymity rights and sensitive material

A public preprint can make author identity discoverable during double-anonymous review. Authors should not conceal or remove an accurate preprint merely to claim perfect anonymity; editors and reviewers still respect the review process and avoid deliberately seeking identity information without a justified integrity reason. The existence of a preprint does not authorize direct contact with a reviewer or a campaign to influence the decision.

Repository deposit must respect participant consent, confidentiality, third-party rights and the licence appropriate to the version. Authors must not upload restricted interview materials, identifiable source data or copyrighted illustrations merely because the article’s text can be shared. A repository record can describe access restrictions and link to a controlled-access process.

Maintaining the shared record

A deposit includes authors, title, version, date, journal citation when known, DOI, licence and links to supporting material where appropriate. Authors update public records after publication and when a correction, expression of concern or retraction affects the article. They preserve a clear relationship between earlier drafts and the current record rather than silently replacing evidence of a material change.

Authors who encounter a conflicting legacy repository rule or a deposit barrier may contact jgtsseditorialoffice@jandoopress.com. Permission under this policy is independent of whether a particular external policy directory currently lists JGTSS. The journal will not claim registration in such a directory until the listing has been verified.
