Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Publisher Commitment

Jandoo Press is firmly committed to upholding the integrity of the scholarly record. All journals published by Jandoo Press adhere to the principles set out by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follow COPE guidelines and flowcharts when allegations of misconduct arise. The publisher supports the STM Association's International Ethical Principles for Scholarly Publication.

Duties of the Publisher

  • Provide editorial independence and protect against commercial or institutional pressures that could compromise scholarly integrity.
  • Ensure that advertising, reprint revenue, or other commercial considerations do not influence editorial decisions.
  • Maintain transparent relationships with journal editorial teams and support editors in the performance of their duties.
  • Take all reasonable steps to identify and prevent publication of work that does not meet accepted ethical standards.
  • Issue corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when necessary and without undue delay.
  • Follow COPE flowcharts and best-practice guidelines when dealing with allegations of misconduct.

Duties of Editors

  • Evaluate manuscripts solely on intellectual merit and relevance to the journal's scope, without discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, or other characteristics.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and reviewer reports.
  • Disclose and manage any conflicts of interest; abstain from editorial decisions on manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
  • Protect the identities of reviewers (double-anonymous review).
  • Investigate suspected misconduct in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Duties of Reviewers

  • Treat manuscripts as confidential documents; do not share or discuss unpublished manuscripts with others.
  • Provide objective, constructive, and timely assessments.
  • Disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest before accepting a review invitation.
  • Alert the editor to suspected plagiarism, duplicate submission, or other ethical concerns.

Duties of Authors

  • Ensure that submitted work is original and has not been previously published or is not under simultaneous review elsewhere.
  • Accurately represent data and findings; fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting is prohibited.
  • Obtain all necessary permissions for use of third-party material.
  • Disclose all funding sources, conflicts of interest, and relevant affiliations.
  • Acknowledge all who have contributed materially to the work; do not list individuals who do not meet authorship criteria.
  • Promptly notify the editor of any errors discovered in a submitted or published manuscript.

Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship of a manuscript submitted to a Jandoo Press journal must be limited to those individuals who have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the conception or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; who have participated in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically; who have approved the submitted version; and who agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work.

Jandoo Press encourages the use of the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) system to transparently indicate each author's specific contribution. All contributing authors must be listed at submission. No additions, deletions, or rearrangements of the author list will be permitted after acceptance without a formal request to the editorial office accompanied by a written justification.

AI tools (including large language models such as ChatGPT) may not be listed as authors.

Complaints and Appeals

Authors, reviewers, or readers who have a concern or complaint about the editorial process, a published article, or the conduct of any party involved in the publication process may contact the editorial office or the publisher. All complaints are handled with care, objectivity, and in accordance with COPE guidelines. Complainants will receive a timely acknowledgment and a substantive response.

Authors who wish to appeal a rejection decision may submit a formal appeal to the Editor-in-Chief within 30 days of the decision, including a detailed and point-by-point response to each concern raised. Appeals are reviewed independently by a senior editor not involved in the original decision.

Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose, at the time of submission, any financial or personal relationships that might have influenced the research or the manuscript. This includes employment, consultancies, professional affiliations, advisory positions, board memberships, patent applications, stock ownership, or other financial interests. If no conflict of interest exists, authors must include the statement: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

Editors and reviewers must also disclose and recuse themselves from any manuscript in which they have an actual or perceived conflict of interest.

Data Sharing and Reproducibility

Jandoo Press is committed to promoting open science and research reproducibility. Authors are strongly encouraged to share the data, code, and materials underlying published articles. Where data sharing is possible and does not violate applicable privacy laws, ethical approvals, or third-party agreements, authors should deposit their data in a recognized public repository prior to publication and include a Data Availability Statement in their article.

Acceptable repositories include Zenodo, Figshare, Dryad, OSF, and discipline-specific repositories. The Data Availability Statement should specify the repository name, the dataset DOI or accession number, and any access restrictions.

Ethical Oversight

Research involving human participants, human tissue, or animals must be conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards (e.g., the Declaration of Helsinki for human research, the ARRIVE guidelines for animal research). Authors must state in the manuscript that ethical approval was obtained from the relevant institutional review board or ethics committee, or provide a clear explanation if no such approval was required. Informed consent for patient data must be documented.

Intellectual Property

Authors warrant that the manuscript does not infringe any copyright, proprietary rights, or other intellectual property rights of any third party. Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission for all third-party material included in their submission. Jandoo Press provides guidance on the permitted use of limited extracts of text, figures, or data from copyrighted works (typically under fair use or equivalent provisions).

Post-Publication Discussions and Corrections

Jandoo Press encourages post-publication scholarly dialogue through formal mechanisms including correspondence letters, commentaries, and technical comments, subject to editorial review. Where errors, significant oversights, or ethical concerns in published articles are identified by authors, readers, or editors, the following actions may be taken: a Correction for non-material errors that do not alter conclusions; a Retraction for articles with fundamental errors, fabricated data, or serious ethical violations; an Expression of Concern where an investigation is ongoing.

All post-publication notices are permanently linked to the original article and clearly labeled.
