Aesthetic Education Through the Mediation of Classic Literature and Art: A Case Study of the Dance Film Only This Green and the Audio Drama of Guan Shan

Abstract

This paper examines the media-based aesthetic education practices of classic literary and artistic works through two case studies: the dance film Only This Green and the audio dramatization of Guan Shan’s Long Letter. Although these two works belong to the visual and auditory arts, respectively, they share significant commonalities in upholding the core of traditional culture, rejecting didactic indoctrination, and emphasizing aesthetic experience and spiritual enrichment. Both achieve the goal of educating through beauty and culture in a subtle and imperceptible manner. At the same time, due to their differing media characteristics, the two works exhibit distinct differences in their modes of expression and audience engagement, collectively forming a diverse and multidimensional framework for aesthetic education. By examining dimensions such as audiovisual presentation, artistic conception, craftsmanship, linguistic aesthetics, emotional resonance, and spiritual character, this article reveals the value and pathways of classic literature and art in contemporary aesthetic education, thereby providing a reference for cross-media aesthetic education practices.
