Adhering to the Principles and Absorbing: An Analysis of the Reception of “New Confucianism” in Modern Chinese Poetry

Abstract

Since the early 20th century, the traditional philosophical ethics and poetic structure of China have been subject to the long-term infiltration and strong intervention of foreign cultural systems. The trend of Western learning spreading to the East has driven the Confucian thought of the classical era to face and accept a large amount of modern social logic and ideological consciousness from Europe and America, and has directly led to the disintegration or transformation of Chinese classical poetry. The New Culture Movement opened the prelude to a century of new poetry. After going through multiple historical stages such as the War of Resistance, revolution, and reform, Chinese culture has almost completed its connection and even extension with world trends. Between the " New Confucianism " that inherits and develops and the "Modern Poetics" that explores intensely, there is a close and complex relationship similar to that between old Confucianism and old poetics, while also achieving transcendence and transformation. Deconstructing and studying this issue may be conducive to enriching and interpreting the value map of contemporary literature and cultural thought.
